Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a wide array of characters, and a gripping narrative showcasing divine entities, fiends, and sinister influences growing in power within Dol-Makjar.
Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season lie ahead.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
Episode 3 ended with a dramatic pause and presented the premier party of adventurers who will separate from the central cast to embark on their independent quest, apart from the other two tables.
The combat-focused team consists of Teor (portrayed by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
Dividing the Cast
With a large ensemble, it was obvious from the start that having everyone at a single group would be impossible.
This explains, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, intertwining the characters’ stories before splitting into three distinct groups: Fighters, Schemers, and Seekers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
Per the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who prefer a typically action-packed battle-oriented gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are few and far between.
At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might seem mismatched, but the developments of the latest installment make it clear why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.
Why They Must Go
For one thing, the team understands precisely where to go next after a violent first encounter with the enemy group.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose death initiated the narrative’s action—used the enemy for his selfish purposes, invading the secret base, attacking the rogue, and taking all the powerful objects to sell off.
The traitor then cleared his liabilities and fled to a fortified location in the remote area, north of the urban center, with Cyd close behind.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each member has a individual motive to leave the city the urban setting:
- The rogue, as the companion and best friend, desires revenge.
- The adventurer is familiar with the northern area and warns that it is a dangerous place.
- Tyranny and The cleric, having resisted his house’s orders to kill the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
- However, their reputation as prominent individuals in the influential clan could help the party enter locations they normally couldn’t.
- Furthermore, Teor vowed a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his rescue and will now accompany him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
In addition, all of them are sought by the powers that govern the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:
- The agile adventurer and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and The healer betrayed the powerful family and the army of fiends they are allied with.
- The target is marked for death by the clan.
This means them little choice but to head to the northern region in search of the antagonist.
Upcoming Developments
According to the latest episode’s follow-up content, we find out that the Soldiers table won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight participants to assemble the Questers and Schemers groups.
Audiences can look forward to finding out which characters will be assigned to which table in the story’s final introductory chapter, released on the upcoming Thursday.
