Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been earned on hardcourt
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his initial championship for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the competition title decider.
The Russian, a ex- world number one, has endured a challenging period, winning just one win at the major tournaments and undergoing a setback at the American major.
Medvedev's varied form on the professional circuit - and issues with his serving in particular - caused him falling of the elite rankings and ultimately separating with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.
Currently working with his coach and Goetzke, he has steadily progressed in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought competitive victory over Frenchman Moutet.
This represents his first trophy following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard surface from that period of that year.
Success also means the Russian has achieved twenty-one titles at twenty-one various tournaments.
"This marks the first occasion I have attended a competition with my both daughters simultaneously, so to secure a title is really nice," stated world number 14 Medvedev.
"This title is in dedication of my younger daughter Victoria, because the first title I achieved when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."
The athlete, the past champion, had been defeated in his last six finals, including in that event previously this season.
The player's defensive play style and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had prompted some to wonder if his capacity to perform at the top level was concluded.
But the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the past month, striving to advance forward and play aggressively, supported by an improved serving game.
Medvedev fought back from a break down in the first set against the challenging Frenchman, winning four of the final five exchanges to go ahead.
Both players exchanged break points in the following set before the challenger, bidding for his first ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to force a final set.
He saved 4 early opportunities in a close deciding set before the Russian broke to that score to serve for the match.
Appropriately, he clinched the win with a shot at the front of the court, with his opponent incapable to control a volley after a lengthy match.
